BE PROACTIVE

You can control things by causing them to happen rather than waiting to react after something has happened. This is called being “Proactive”.

Proactive people:
  • Do not wait for things to happen
  • Do not wait for answers to appear, they find answers
  • Are always looking to move forward
  • Are actively engaged, not passively observing
  • Constantly find means to get things done
  • Don’t delve on the past and always look forward
  • Are always innovating 
  • Are resourceful


Rather than react to situations or circumstances, Proactive people take action to ensure desired or favorable outcomes. They can anticipate consequences and take steps to achieve their goals. However there will always be times when one is not able to foresee the obstacles and avert them. But Proactive people do not get bogged down, they recoup and get going.

A Proactive person can be identified by the following behaviors:
  1. They can predict the likely roadblocks that they may encounter. They are ready to tackle issues based on their earlier experiences and are creative enough to come out with solutions to overcome them. Proactive people are active, ready and prepared to face any eventuality.
  2. Proactive people prevent a small challenge from snowballing into a major issue. They do not let any problem stop them from being in action and always look for answers and solutions.
  3. A Proactive person has a tendency to anticipate and hence plans for all contingencies.  They do not wait for the last minute for things to happen but take care of all possibilities.
  4. Proactive People always take the initiative and participate fully rather than be silent observers. They are ready with alternatives and are influencers. They are looking at making a contribution and a positive difference.
  5. Immediate and timely action is one of the characteristics of a Proactive person. They perform without procrastinating and are always in action. They are aware of their thoughts, beliefs and emotions.
